Background:
Opened in 1968, Spring Cottage Primary has a single-storey building for the younger pupils and a two-storey block for Key Stage 2. Each year group has two classes with no mixed-age teaching groups. Two halls are used for PE, dance, music and collective worship, and lunches are eaten in a separate dining room. Outdoor facilties include three playgrounds for different age groups and plans are under way to add a playing field and conservation area to the grounds. In 1999, the school was invited by the Department for Education and Employment to apply for Beacon school status. The school has 'strong' links with the local community and business and is a British Petroleum Link School. With 1.5 applications for each place in the reception class, Spring Cottage is oversubscribed.
