Background:

Built in 1939, the school is located in 'pleasant' surroundings with a large field to the rear of the building and grassed areas to the front and sides. The catchment area comprises a mix of owner occupied housing and private and council rented properties. The site is shared by local education authority offices, which were formerly a school and Priory Primary uses part of the same building for teaching and resources. The school holds a basic skills Quality Mark and a Health Promoting School award. Links have been established with the local church and library and three peripatetic music teachers visit the school each week. Pupils have the opportunity to play touch rugby. Priory Primary has recently increased the number of support staff employed to assist pupils with special educational needs (SEN) individually and in small groups. A peripatetic SEN support teacher works with pupils one day a week and there is also a SEN support room containing specialist equipment and resources.
