Background:

Headlands School takes its origin from the St George's Boys' and St George's Girls' schools, which were founded in 1935. In 1965 these schools combined as a co-educational school and new buildings were erected on a new rural site on the outskirts of the town and the school was renamed Headlands School. It is a county, secondary, comprehensive day school admitting students on a co-educational basis in the age range 11-18. The school has achieved Science College status in March 2002. The school has interactive whiteboards, state-of-the-art ICT equipment, spacious technology workshops and sports facilities. It encourages student participation and offers an extensive extra-curricular and curriculum-enrichment programme. This ranges from sport, drama, dance and music to astronomy and an exciting able and talented student programme. The school is a lively, vibrant, friendly and purposeful community that aims to encourage all students to make the most of their abilities and opportunities.
