Background:

Gillshill is a large, urban primary school, comprising almost entirely white Britishfamilies. The school ensures that all pupils have equal access to the full range of educational opportunities provided. It aims to provide a broad, balanced, well-planned curriculum, developing the whole child through a range of interesting and exciting activities. In May 2004 the school was awarded the Basic Skills Quality Mark for the second time. It was ranked very highly in the LEA Primary League Tables for performance at the end of Key Stage 2. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities which includes football, netball, soft ball, cricket, gymnastics, design and technology club, drama, recorders, knitting, environment and music clubs. The school also provides a wide range of cultural and recreational visits to destinations within and outside the locality for example London Sights, The Lion King, The Quarry Theatre, Scarborough Water Park and Rosedale.
