Background:
Founded in AD 721 by St John of Beverley, Beverley Grammar believes itself to be the third oldest school of its kind in the country. It was originally sited at Beverley Minster, and the 'strong' links between the two bodies are still maintained, with the vicar acting as a school governor. The over-subscribed school is now situated in 'extensive, open' grounds on the western side of the town. There is a joint sixth form with Beverley High School. The main sports played are soccer in winter and cricket in summer, besides 'many' others. Pupils are continuing the sporting 'tradition' with wins in various local and county leagues; in addition, one pupil is an English under-16 golf champion and another is an international hockey player. Music is also promoted through the 'thriving' school orchestra. The school has a 'very strong' Old Boys' Association. 'We encourage success, no matter what the level'.
