Background:

The Market Weighton School is a small comprehensive school serving the local community. In the summer of 2004 its students produced some outstanding examination results. Year 9 achieved an excellent pass rate at Level 5; its sixth-formers' results were yet again sufficient to take them on to some of the finest universities in the country and its Year 11 produced the best results the school has ever seen, with every student passing at least one GCSE and 69 per cent passing five or more GCSEs at grade C or above. Together, staff and students make this a unique school. At The Market Weighton School students are expected to work conscientiously and to the highest standards. Work-experience and community links provide experience of the wider world for its students. During summer 2002 an extensive refurbishment was completed, providing the school with excellent ground floor medical facilities, including a disabled bathroom with access via an automatic hoist, a rise and fall medical plinth and the space for medical practitioners Eg physiotherapists. Sporting activities include school team for hockey, netball, football, rounders, rugby union, cricket, cross-country, athletics and tennis. The school'seeks to enhance all students' sense of self worth. Honesty, integrity and reliability are fundamental to the life of the school.
