Background:
Following a 'difficult period' in the early 1990s, the school has undergone 'many' changes over the last five years. A 'stimulating and caring' environment has been established through reorganisation of the curriculum, the introduction of a new uniform and redecoration of the buildings where the school has been housed since 1870. The school'serves a large, 'pleasant' market town and provides a 'focal point' for the community, often lending its buildings for its use. Staff place the individual child 'very much to the fore' and support is available for more or less able children. They are proud of the school's improved test results over the last few years, and believe these improvements 'rival the best anywhere in the country'. Extra-curricular activities include choir, orchestra, gardening, computing and various sports. The school is over-subscribed.
