Background:
Eastfield Primary was created in its present form in 1988 as a result of Humberside schools re-organisation. It occupies a 'spacious' site on the western boundary of the city. It is a 'very large' building, with the oldest part dating back to 1935 and the most modern part dating from the 1960s. There is a recently refurbished early years area with three classrooms. There are also a further 19 classrooms (3 classes in each age group), three resource areas, a computer suite, two main halls, one with a stage, a purpose built dining room and a large, modern gymnasium with changing rooms. Outside there are playgrounds, a nature area with pond, a 'large' field and all weather sports area. Many of the facilities are 'well used' by the community and the school is open from 7am to 9pm five days a week with some weekend activities. There is an out of school club and an Eastfield pre-school facility on site, which are both 'extremely popular with local parents'. In addition there is a large adult education centre offering many vocational and non-vocational courses. 'Many' parents help in school on a weekly basis and the 'flourishing' Friends of Eastfield Association, organises 'frequent community functions'. Extra-curricular activities include soccer, netball, five-a-side rugby, dancing, choir, recorders and French club among others. Many older pupils visit outdoor pursuit centres. Each year the school selects a charity to support in addition to its support of adopted Zambian children from a particular village. Links to industry are 'extensive' with the school holding an annual industry day. The school also has 'close links' with Hull University.
